dMAT Result 2026: How to Get Your Certificate, Read Your Score and What to Do Next
The result of the first dMAT in India, held on 26 September 2026, is published on 12 October 2026 in the g.a.s.t. participant portal. There is no pass or fail. Your certificate shows a dMAT score from 0 to 200 and a percentile rank for each of the two modules, and you submit that certificate to APS India.

How to download your dMAT certificate
- Open the participant portal. Go to the official dMAT page for India and choose "Login Participants". g.a.s.t. also gives the short address
www.d-mat.de/participants/login. - Sign in with your registration account. Use the same login details you created when you registered for the exam. Keep your participant number ready.
- Download the certificate. Once results are published, the certificate can be downloaded from the portal at any time.
- Check your name. It should match your passport exactly, because the certificate goes into your APS file.
- Keep the certificate as issued. It is issued electronically by the TestDaF Institute, is valid without a signature, and carries a QR code that universities can use to check online that it is authentic.
Result not showing? g.a.s.t. has announced the date but not a release time. Check again later on 12 October before you worry. For login or download problems, write to g.a.s.t. at kontakt@gast.de. APS India cannot help with the portal.
How to read your dMAT certificate
The certificate reports two modules separately, and gives two numbers for each.
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| dMAT score | Your number of correct answers converted to a scale from 0 to 200. The mean is 100. |
| Percentile rank | The share of other participants who scored lower than or equal to you. |
You get these for the Core Module (Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations and Latin Squares) and for the General Academic Module. The overall result is the two module scores added together.
A worked example
These numbers are an illustration, not real results.
| Module | dMAT score | Percentile rank | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core Module | 112 | 68 | Above the mean of 100. 68% of participants scored the same or lower, 32% scored higher. |
| General Academic Module | 96 | 44 | Slightly below the mean. 44% scored the same or lower, 56% scored higher. |
| Overall | 208 | The two scores added. Since each module has a mean of 100, a total of 200 sits at the average. |
Because the dMAT is a standardised test, both numbers compare you with all participants at all test centres and on all test dates, not only with the people in your room.
What is a good dMAT score?
There is no official answer, and it helps to be clear about what is and is not known.
- For the APS certificate: no score is required. APS India states that a low score does not automatically lead to a refusal of the APS certificate.
- For the visa: g.a.s.t. says taking the dMAT is sufficient for the visa application.
- For admission: each German university decides on its own whether and how it uses the result. No general cut-off has been published.
What you can read from the numbers themselves:
| Your percentile rank | Where you stand |
|---|---|
| 90 or higher | Top tenth of all participants |
| 75 to 89 | Top quarter |
| 50 to 74 | Upper half |
| Below 50 | Lower half |
A university that wants to shortlist by rank can use the percentile directly. g.a.s.t. gives the example of a university selecting the best 10% of applicants.
Results from Yastudy's first dMAT batch
We called the students of our first batch on results day, 12 October 2026. This is what they told us:
- Average percentile rank: about 60. On average, our students scored the same as or higher than about 60% of all participants.
- 15 students reached the 85th percentile or higher, which places them in roughly the top 15% of everyone who took the test.
- Best certificate we have checked so far: Core Module 153 (86th percentile), General Academic Module 150 (85th percentile), total score 303.
- A few students scored lower. There is no pass mark, so a lower score does not stop their APS certificate. Those who want a better result can retake the test in the next cycle.
On the certificate we checked, a module score of about 150 corresponded to the 85th to 86th percentile. That gives future candidates a first idea of the score needed to reach the top 15% in this test.
These figures were reported to us by students. We have checked one certificate so far and will update this section as more come in.
What to do after you get your result
- Download and save the certificate from the g.a.s.t. portal.
- Submit it to APS India. If you have not sent your APS application yet, include the dMAT certificate with your APS documents. If your APS documents are already with APS India, submit the dMAT certificate now to complete that file.
- Wait for the APS certificate. APS India can issue it only after your dMAT certificate has been submitted and the result has been checked against the information provided by g.a.s.t. Your dMAT result will be shown on the APS certificate.
- Apply to universities. Deadlines differ by university and programme. A German Embassy spokesperson told The PIE News that the dMAT schedule was planned around the 15 January application deadline for the summer semester, but some programmes close earlier, so check each one.
- Apply for your visa once you have your admission. No particular dMAT score is needed for it.
One rule to remember. Only the dMAT certificate may be added later. APS India does not accept additional or updated academic documents together with the dMAT certificate for the same APS procedure, so your mark sheets and degree documents must have been complete in your first submission.
Need help with the APS file itself? See our APS certificate guide and the Yastudy APS service.
If your score is lower than you hoped
A low score does not stop your APS certificate, and it does not by itself lead to a rejection by a university. APS India says universities assess applications independently and may consider the dMAT together with your other academic documents. Your score will be visible on the APS certificate, though, so it is reasonable to think about a second attempt.
- You can retake the test. g.a.s.t. allows as many attempts as you wish.
- The next date is not fixed yet. It is planned for the first quarter of 2027. See dMAT exam dates for updates.
- Check two things before you decide. First, whether your university deadlines leave room to wait for a new result. Second, how APS India will handle a new certificate for your file. The published FAQs do not cover this case, so ask APS India at info@aps-india.de.
If you do retake, practise the question types that cost you the most time: Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations, Latin Squares and the General Academic Module.

Frequently asked questions
When is the dMAT result 2026 declared?
The result of the first dMAT in India, held on 26 September 2026, is published on 12 October 2026 in the g.a.s.t. participant portal. The certificate is issued through the same portal on that date.
At what time will the dMAT result be released?
g.a.s.t. has published the date, 12 October 2026, but not a release time. If your result is not visible yet, check the participant portal again later in the day before writing to g.a.s.t.
Is there a pass mark in the dMAT?
No. APS India states that the dMAT is not a stand-alone pass/fail test for the APS certificate, and a low score does not automatically lead to a refusal of the APS certificate. You receive a score and a percentile rank, not a pass or a fail.
What is the maximum dMAT score?
Each module is reported on a scale from 0 to 200 with a mean of 100. You get one score for the Core Module and one for the General Academic Module, and the overall result is the two added together.
What is a good dMAT score?
There is no official good score or cut-off. A module score above 100 is above the average of all test takers, and the percentile rank tells you what share of participants scored the same or lower. German universities decide on their own how they use the result.
Will a low dMAT score get my APS certificate refused?
Not automatically. APS India says a low dMAT score does not automatically lead to a refusal of the APS certificate. The certificate documents the APS verification result and shows your dMAT result alongside it.
Will my dMAT score appear on the APS certificate?
Yes. For applicants who must take the dMAT, APS India states that the APS certificate indicates that the dMAT was taken and includes the results shown on the dMAT certificate.
Do I need a minimum dMAT score for the German student visa?
No. According to the g.a.s.t. FAQ, taking the dMAT is sufficient for the visa application. No particular score is required for it.
Is my result sent to APS India automatically?
g.a.s.t. transfers results to APS in New Delhi for candidates who signed the Declaration of Consent at the test centre, and APS India checks your result against that information. You still have to download the certificate and submit it to APS India yourself as part of your APS documents.
How long is the dMAT certificate valid?
g.a.s.t. says the certificate is generally valid indefinitely. A university that receives the certificate directly may apply its own rule on how long it accepts a result. g.a.s.t. also confirms that a September 2026 result remains valid for the winter semester 2027.
Can I retake the dMAT to improve my score?
Yes. g.a.s.t. allows you to take the dMAT as many times as you wish. The next test date is planned for the first quarter of 2027, and the exact date has not been announced yet.
Can I ask for a re-evaluation of my dMAT result?
The published g.a.s.t. FAQ does not describe a re-evaluation or re-checking process. If you believe there is an error in your result or certificate, write to g.a.s.t. at kontakt@gast.de with your participant number.
