Where can you learn German in Trivandrum?
The Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum was established in 2008 and offers German classes from A1 to C2. It has branches in Kochi and Calicut. You can also learn German at other institutes or online.
| Option | Choose it if | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum, Kochi or Calicut | You want a campus and the Goethe-Zentrum's own courses | The centre publishes terms for its courses, including a registration fee for A1 courses and a 70% attendance rule to move up a level. Read them first. Goethe-Zentren are authorised by the Goethe-Institut and set up by local German societies under a formal agreement with it, according to the Goethe-Zentrum portal. |
| Other institutes in Kerala | You want a classroom near home | Ask for the fee in writing, the hours per level, the batch size and the exam support. |
| Yastudy live online | You want daily live classes, a published fee list and combos | You attend on a screen and travel only for your exam. It is not for weekend-only learners. |
Questions to ask any German course in Trivandrum
- How many class hours does each level have, and how many weeks does it take?
- What is the batch size, and will I speak in every class?
- What is the total fee, and is the exam fee included?
- What happens if I do not clear the exam?
- Are classes recorded, and can I ask doubts between classes?
Our full course, with batch timings, is on the German course page.
How Yastudy's German classes work for students in Trivandrum
Yastudy teaches German live online, so you attend from Trivandrum and travel only for your exam. Whether you live in Trivandrum, Kochi, Calicut or another part of Kerala, online classes mean you do not have to travel to a classroom. A batch has 10 to 12 students, and classes run for 3 hours a day, Monday to Friday. Every class is recorded, you can send doubts on WhatsApp between classes, and a mock test every week shows where you stand. The levels run from A1 to B2 in about 21 weeks, which is 310 hours of live class.
Try before you pay
You can watch a real class first (we send the recorded class on WhatsApp without payment), or join a live class for ₹199. The ₹199 comes off your fee if you enrol within 7 days of the class.
Repeat the level if you do not clear the exam
If you do not clear your Goethe or telc exam, you repeat that level's batch without paying again. You need at least 80% attendance, and you must take the exam within 3 months of finishing the level.
It will not suit you if you can only study on weekends. The course is built for students who can give about 5 hours a day for a few months: 3 hours of live class and about 2 hours of practice. Recordings help you catch up on a missed class, but the pace only works with regular attendance.

Goethe, telc and ÖSD exams for students in Kerala
Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum, Kochi and Calicut
The Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum (Allianz Haus, D9, Jawahar Nagar, Trivandrum 695003) runs the Goethe certificate courses and exams in Kerala under the auspices of the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan. It has a branch in Kochi (6th Floor, Chavara Cultural Centre, Monastery Road, near South Railway Station, Kochi 682011) and a location in Kozhikode (T T Avenue, Govindapuram, Kozhikode 673016).
How registration works
- Dates. The centre says the dates for sending the exam slot email are published on its website 45 days before the exam dates.
- A1, A2 and B1. Registration is completely online through the centre's website.
- B2. You must send an email with your personal details within a stated time window, published at least a month in advance. Emails that arrive outside that window are not considered.
- Selection. Seats are allotted first come, first served. The centre then asks you to come to the office in person to complete the registration and pay.
- Payment. Fees can be paid by online transaction or by cash, in full at registration. Refunds are not possible. If you do not appear for a reason other than personal illness, you pay 25% of the exam fee again for a later date, and you need a medical certificate if you were ill.
- Results. The centre says results are published about 5 weeks after the exam and certificates are provided after 6 weeks.
No agents. The Goethe-Zentrum says it has not assigned any external agent or agency to collect fees from candidates, and asks candidates to send emails individually from their own registered email addresses. Do not pay anyone who offers to book your seat.

These are the external fees, including 18% GST, as listed by the Goethe-Institut India (A1 on 2 October 2026, the others on its Pune and New Delhi registration pages on 4 October 2026).

Partner centres publish their own exam fees on their own websites. Check the Goethe-Zentrum's current fee list before you book.
telc and other providers
telc exams in India run through licensed partner centres, and the list changes. In Kerala we found inTandem Language and Training Center in Thiruvananthapuram and Kraft German Institute in Kochi. Confirm each one on telc's official finder, and ask for its dates, fee and partial-exam rules. See our telc exam guide for India.
Goethe or telc: which should a student in Trivandrum choose?
For most goals, an office accepts more than one provider. The best choice is the one your office accepts that you can book soonest. In Kerala you can sit the Goethe exam at the Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum or its Kochi and Calicut centres. For telc, we found inTandem in Thiruvananthapuram and Kraft German Institute in Kochi.
| Question | Goethe-Institut | telc |
|---|---|---|
| Where you sit it | Mainly the Goethe-Institut's own centres and its partner centres | Licensed partner centres, a list that changes |
| Fee | One published external fee for each exam | Set by each centre. Ask for a written fee list. |
| B1 and B2 retakes | Fee per module is listed (B1 ₹4,700, B2 ₹5,300) | Partial exam possible at B2, and centres state it for B1 |
| B2 written time | Listening 40, reading 65, writing 75 minutes | About 140 minutes in total, with listening of about 20 minutes |
| B2 speaking | Pair exam, 15 minutes | Pair exam, about 15 minutes, with 20 minutes of preparation |
| A1 for a spouse visa | Start Deutsch 1 is listed by the German Missions in India | Start Deutsch 1 of telc GmbH is listed by the German Missions in India |
Our course prepares you for both. The details of each exam are in our Goethe A1 exam guide and our telc exam guide.
Planning an exam trip from Trivandrum
Kerala has three Goethe-Zentrum locations (Trivandrum, Kochi and Calicut), so choose the one nearest to you and read the registration rules carefully, because the centre asks candidates to complete registration in person.
- Book the exam first, then plan travel and any night's stay. Keep the booking confirmation and your payment receipt.
- Check your passport. The Goethe-Institut asks for a valid passport in the original on exam day, and your name must match your booking.
- Arrive early. Read the invitation for the reporting time and what to bring.
- Keep the whole day free. At some centres the written and oral parts fall on different days or at different times. Ask your centre.
- Save your result. Download your certificate when you pass and keep copies in more than one place.
Visa and the German Consulate General Bengaluru
Kerala does not have its own German mission. The Federal Foreign Office lists Kerala under the German Consulate General Bengaluru. Students from Trivandrum should plan a trip to Bengaluru if their visa type needs a visit, and should check the German Missions in India visa page for how to book an appointment. See German in Bangalore.
- Appointments. The missions ask visitors to book an appointment before they come. The rules differ by visa type.
- Spouse visa. The German Missions in India ask for a current recognised A1 certificate when one is required. They list “Start Deutsch 1” of the Goethe-Institut or of telc GmbH and “Grundstufe Deutsch 1” of the ÖSD, and the exam cannot have taken place more than one year ago. A certificate is not always necessary. See how long a Goethe certificate is valid.
- Vocational training. You apply online on the Federal Foreign Office's Consular Services Portal and then follow your mission's appointment and document checklist. See German for Ausbildung for the B1 requirement and the 2026 money figures.
- Nursing. Recognition as a nurse needs B2. See German for nurses for the routes, including the recognition partnership.
- University students. Indian applicants to German universities are usually asked for an APS certificate. Our German in Delhi page explains it.
Ask the consulate, in writing, about anything that is not on its own pages. We are not a visa office, and we cannot guarantee a visa.

Nurses in Kerala
Kerala is one of the two Indian states, with Telangana, where the Triple Win programme of the Federal Employment Agency and the GIZ has a placement agreement with the state's employment authority. The partner authority organises the application locally, and the GIZ organises German courses up to B1 and language training for nurses. New arrivals work as nursing assistants until their qualification is recognised, and recognition needs B2. Yastudy does not run Triple Win. See German for nurses for every route, including the recognition partnership.
Trivandrum, Kochi and Calicut
The online classes are the same wherever you live in Kerala. For exams, compare the three Goethe-Zentrum locations and the telc centres, and note that the registration rules differ by level and ask for an in-person step.
Your goal from Kerala
- Ausbildung: B1 is normally needed. See German for Ausbildung.
- Nursing: recognition needs B2. See German for nurses.
- Study or spouse visa: see the Goethe A1 exam guide.

A realistic timeline from Trivandrum
- Weeks 1 to 3. A1 live classes. Book your exam date when you start, for about four to six weeks after your batch begins.
- Weeks 4 to 13. A2 and B1, if your goal needs B1. Do one full mock exam each week.
- Weeks 14 to 21. B2, if your goal needs it, such as nursing recognition.
- After each level. Take the exam within 3 months to keep your repeat-level promise, and keep your certificate recent for the office that will receive it.
Mistakes to avoid when you learn German in Trivandrum
- Booking the exam through an agent. The Goethe-Institut says to book only on its own website and warns about fraudulent offers.
- Choosing a level from a video instead of asking the office or employer what it needs.
- Taking the exam too early and having a certificate that is too old for a visa office. See certificate validity.
- Skipping mock exams. The full exams are long. Practise under timing.
- Not practising speaking. At B1 and B2 the oral exam is a pair exam. Speak in every class.
- Paying for an “internal” Goethe price. That lower fee is for the institute's own course students.
- Leaving documents for last. Translations, certificates and appointments take time.
