What we cover
| Section | Questions and time | What it tests |
|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Reasoning | 21 questions, 45 minutes | Problem Solving questions on arithmetic and algebra. No calculator.[1] |
| Verbal Reasoning | 23 questions, 45 minutes | Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning. Sentence Correction is no longer part of the exam.[1] |
| Data Insights | 20 questions, 45 minutes | Data Sufficiency, Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation and Two-Part Analysis, with an on-screen calculator.[1][2] |
Who the course is for
- MBA applicants to schools that require or reward the GMAT, in Germany or elsewhere.
- Master in Management applicants, for example to TUM, which asks Indian graduates for the 65th percentile.
- Working professionals who need a weekend batch and a 12-week plan they can keep up with.
How to use 12 weeks well
A simple way to think about a 12-week GMAT preparation, whichever batch you join:
- Weeks 1–4: foundations. Rebuild arithmetic and algebra without a calculator, and learn the Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension question types.
- Weeks 5–8: Data Insights and timing. Data Insights has five question types that mix data reading and reasoning; practise all five and start timed section sets.
- Weeks 9–12: full mocks. Take full-length timed mocks, review every error, and decide your section order, since the GMAT lets you choose it.[3]
Book your exam date early. Leave room for a retake: you must wait at least 16 days between attempts, and Official Score Reports usually arrive within 3–5 days.[4][5]

What GMAT score do you need? German business schools
Few schools publish a hard minimum. These are the rules German schools publish for 2026–27, with the percentile each score represents on GMAC’s current table.[13]
| Programme | GMAT rule |
|---|---|
| Mannheim Full-Time MBA | GMAT or GRE required and can’t be waived; Mannheim names 565 on the GMAT Focus Edition (about the 50th percentile)[14][15] |
| ESMT Berlin Full-time MBA | A test is required (ESMT’s own test, GMAT, GRE or Executive Assessment); no minimum published[16] |
| HHL Leipzig Full-time MBA | GMAT, GRE or HHL’s own test required[17] |
| WHU Full-Time MBA | Not strictly required: a score is one of five ways to qualify[18] |
| Frankfurt School Full-time MBA | GMAT preferred; the school’s own test or a waiver is possible[19] |
| Pforzheim MBA (public) | 550+ on the classic GMAT or 515+ on the Focus Edition expected; waiver possible with a very good grade[20] |
| TUM Master in Management | 65th percentile or higher for Indian graduates (595 is the 66th percentile on the current table)[21] |
| WHU MSc in Management | GMAT 555 (or GRE 158/158, or GTEBS 102)[22] |
| Mannheim Master in Management | Optional, but earns up to 60 ranking points: 555 gives 1 point, 685 gives 60[23] |
| University of Cologne MSc Business Administration | Optional, up to 32 selection points; no points below the 36th percentile (required for the IIM Ahmedabad double degree)[24] |
GMAT percentiles at a glance

GMAT or GRE: which should you take?
- For an MBA in Germany, both usually work. Mannheim, ESMT and HHL accept the GRE as well as the GMAT, and WHU counts either as a way to qualify.[14][16][17][18]
- For management master’s, check each programme. TUM’s Master in Management asks for the GMAT; WHU and Frankfurt School accept the GRE too.[21][22][25]
- Some engineering and computer science master’s ask for the GRE, not the GMAT: TUM’s computer science master’s for degrees from India (GATE also accepted), and RWTH for non-EU degrees.[26][27] See our GRE coaching.
- Neither replaces the dMAT. If your bachelor’s is in engineering, commerce or business, APS India requires the dMAT from the summer 2027 intake, and a GMAT score doesn’t replace it (unless one of APS’s exemptions applies to you).[28] We run a dMAT preparation course.
The exam fees differ too: the GMAT costs US$275 at a test centre in India, the GRE US$249.[7][29]
GMAT coaching: frequently asked questions
How long is Yastudy’s GMAT course?
12 weeks, with about 60 hours of live online classes, plus full-length mock tests, a question bank and doubt-clearing sessions. Weekday evening and weekend batches are available.
What is the GMAT exam fee in India?
GMAC lists US$275 for the GMAT at a test centre in India and US$300 for the online exam, which is available in India. Up to five score reports are free if you send them within 48 hours of your Official Score.
What is a good GMAT score?
It depends on the school. On GMAC’s current table, 565 is about the 50th percentile, 605 the 69th, 645 the 86th and 685 the 95th. Mannheim names 565 for its Full-Time MBA, WHU’s MSc asks for 555, and TUM’s Master in Management wants the 65th percentile (about 595) from Indian graduates.
What are the sections of the GMAT?
Quantitative Reasoning (21 questions), Verbal Reasoning (23) and Data Insights (20), 45 minutes each, 2 hours 15 minutes in total with an optional 10-minute break. You choose the order of the sections.
Does the GMAT still have geometry and sentence correction?
Sentence Correction is no longer part of the exam: Verbal Reasoning now has Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning. GMAC describes Quantitative Reasoning as testing algebra and arithmetic, with no calculator.
How many times can I take the GMAT?
Up to five times in any rolling 12-month period, counting test-centre and online attempts together, with at least 16 days between attempts. A cancelled score still counts as an attempt.
How long is a GMAT score valid?
Five years. Since 12 August 2026, GMAC also offers a Superscore that shows your best section scores across valid attempts, at no extra cost.
Should I take the GMAT or the GRE for an MBA in Germany?
Either usually works: Mannheim, ESMT and HHL accept both, and WHU counts either as a way to qualify. TUM’s Master in Management asks for the GMAT, while some engineering and computer science master’s at TUM and RWTH ask Indian or non-EU applicants for the GRE (TUM also accepts GATE).
Does a GMAT score replace the dMAT for Germany?
No. The dMAT is part of the APS process for Indian applicants with engineering, commerce or business degrees from the summer 2027 intake, and APS India lists no exemption for a GMAT score.
Is the course online or in a classroom?
Live online, taught by Yastudy’s in-house trainers, so you can join from anywhere in India. Weekend batches suit working professionals.
