Quick answer

Yastudy’s GRE course is a 12-week live online course with about 60 hours of classes, full-length mock tests, a question bank and doubt-clearing sessions, in weekday or weekend batches. The GRE General Test takes about 1 hour 58 minutes: one essay, two Verbal and two Quant sections, scored 130–170 per section and 0–6 for writing. It costs US$249 from 1 August 2026, scores can be reported for five years, and you can retake it every 21 days, up to five times in any rolling 12 months. In Germany, TUM’s computer science master’s ask Indian applicants for Quant 164 and Writing 4.0 (or GATE), RWTH asks non-EU applicants for 145/160/3.0 for its mechanical engineering master’s, and business schools such as Mannheim, ESMT and HHL accept the GRE instead of the GMAT.

Who the course is for

  • Engineering and computer science applicants to programmes such as TUM’s and RWTH’s, which ask Indian or non-EU applicants for minimum GRE scores.
  • MBA and management applicants to schools that accept the GRE instead of the GMAT.
  • Working professionals who need a weekend batch and a 12-week plan.

How to use 12 weeks well

  1. Weeks 1–4: foundations. Quant topics from arithmetic to data analysis, vocabulary in context, and the essay structure.
  2. Weeks 5–8: timed sections. If your target is a German computer science master’s, give Quant extra time: TUM asks for 164, which is about the 63rd percentile.[5][6]
  3. Weeks 9–12: full mocks. Take full-length timed mocks and practise essays under the clock; TUM also asks for Writing 4.0.

Leave room for a retake: you can take the GRE once every 21 days, up to five times in any rolling 12 months, and scores arrive about 8–10 days after the test.[4]

What GRE score do you need for Germany?

Many German master’s programmes don’t ask for the GRE (LMU’s Data Science master’s, for example, says it isn’t required), but several popular ones do, often only for applicants with an Indian or non-EU degree. These are the published rules for 2026–27.[10]

GRE rules at German universities and business schools
ProgrammeGRE rule
TUM Informatics, Data Engineering and Analytics, Robotics M.Sc.For degrees from India (and some other countries): Quant 164 and Writing 4.0, Verbal not considered; or a GATE score instead[5][11][12]
RWTH Aachen, mechanical-type master’sFor non-EU applicants: Verbal 145, Quant 160, Writing 3.0[13]
RWTH Aachen, Computer Science and relatedFor non-EU degrees: above the 15th percentile in Verbal and the 75th in Quant, and Writing 3.5[14]
Saarland University, computer science master’sGRE or GATE if your degree isn’t from the EHEA, Switzerland or the UK; no minimum score[15]
LMU Munich, Quantitative EconomicsQuant at the 75th percentile or higher, or a written test in Munich[16]
WHU MSc in ManagementVerbal 158 and Quant 158 (or GMAT 555)[17]
ESMT Berlin Master in Global ManagementNot mandatory if you can show quantitative skills another way; a GRE below 304 (Verbal + Quant) is “not considered competitive”[18]
MBAs: Mannheim, ESMT, HHLThe GRE is accepted instead of the GMAT[19][20][21]

GRE, GMAT, GATE or dMAT: which do you need?

  • GRE vs GATE: TUM’s computer science master’s and Saarland accept a GATE score instead of the GRE. If you already have a good GATE score, check whether it’s enough.[5][15]
  • GRE vs GMAT: for German MBAs, either usually works. TUM’s Master in Management asks for the GMAT. ETS offers a GRE Comparison Tool for Business Schools that predicts GMAT scores from GRE scores.[22] See our GMAT coaching.
  • The dMAT is separate. From the summer 2027 intake, APS India requires it from engineering, commerce and business graduates; it doesn’t replace the GRE or GATE.[23] Prepare with our dMAT course.
