How German classes work for students in Patna

Yastudy German classes are live online. You join from home in Patna, and a trainer teaches the batch in real time. It is a class, not a set of videos: you are asked questions, you speak German, and you are corrected.

  • Three hours of live class a day, Monday to Friday. Plan about two more hours a day for homework and practice.
  • 10 to 12 students in a batch at most, with speaking practice in every class.
  • Every class is recorded. If you miss a class, or the power or the network fails in the middle of one, you watch the recording.
  • Doubts on WhatsApp. You can send your questions between classes.
  • A mock test every week, so the exam pattern is familiar before exam day.
  • Yastudy's own course material. At A1 this is a Kursbuch (course book) with 12 lessons and an Arbeitsbuch (workbook), with an exam task in every lesson.

The batch is the same for every city. A student in Patna and a student in Pune sit in the same class and follow the same plan. The full course is described on the main German language course page.

Your trainer

Raj studied at TU Munich in a German-taught program. He teaches the German you will actually need in Germany, and he knows what the route from India to Germany looks like.

A weekday in the course

Part of the dayTimeWhat you do
Live class3 hoursNew material with your trainer, then speaking practice in a small group
Your own practiceAbout 2 hoursHomework, new words, and the recording if you need to revise
Every weekOne mock testYou see where you stand before the exam

That is about 5 hours of German on every weekday. This pace only works if you attend every class and practise daily. If you can study only at the weekend, or you want a slow pace, this course will not suit you, and it is better to know that before you pay.

What you need at home

  • A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera and a microphone. A laptop is more comfortable for three hours.
  • Earphones or a headset, so that you hear the listening exercises clearly.
  • A steady internet connection, with mobile data as a backup.
  • A quiet place for three hours, and a notebook. The paper-based exam is written by hand, so practise writing by hand as well.

Classes are online. The office is in Patna.

You do not travel to a classroom, but Yastudy is not an online-only name. Our office is at Boring Road Crossing, and you can meet a counsellor there to talk through your level, your batch and your plan for Germany. The address is in the Patna office section.

See a class before you decide. We send a 15-minute recorded class on WhatsApp, with no payment needed. Or join a live class on Zoom for ₹199.

Which German level do you need?

The level you need depends on your goal, not on the institute. These are the usual requirements, and the week by which this course gets you there.

Some employers, schools and German states ask for more, and rules change, so check the official page for your case. The level table on the main German page names the official sources for the visa and recognition rows.

If you already know some German

You do not have to start from A1. If you have finished A1 elsewhere, join the A2 batch: the A2 to B1 combo is ₹23,500 and A2 to B2 is ₹33,500. If you have finished A2, you can join B1 on its own. Not sure of your level? Message us on WhatsApp and we will check it with you.

Who this German course suits

The course is the same for everyone. What changes is the level you stop at and what you do with the certificate.

Class 12 students and undergraduates

If you want an Ausbildung, plan for B1: the A1 to B1 combo takes about 13 weeks. If you want a bachelor's degree in Germany, many students with an Indian Class 12 certificate go through a Studienkolleg first, and the entrance test needs B1 to B2. Read Bachelor's in Germany from India for the route.

Nursing students and nurses

The recognition of a nursing qualification in Germany asks for German at B2. Plan the full A1 to B2 route, about 21 weeks of class, and take the B2 exam at the end. The German B2 course page explains what B2 involves.

Engineering and other graduates

On the points route of the Opportunity Card, German A1 or English B2 is the minimum, and every higher level of German adds points: A2 adds 1, B1 adds 2 and B2 adds 3. Graduates whose degree is fully recognised in Germany do not need the points. Many master's programs in Germany are taught in English, and German still helps with part-time work and daily life. Read the Opportunity Card guide.

Doctors

Doctors need B2 first, and then the C1 medical language exam for their licence. This course takes you to B2. C1 medical German comes after this program.

Spouses joining a partner in Germany

Not every spouse needs a German certificate. The German Missions in India say it is mandatory for almost everyone joining a German citizen, and for most spouses of people in Germany who do not hold a visa or residence permit for highly skilled work. The level asked for is A1, with a certificate from the Goethe-Institut, telc or ÖSD. Check your own case with the German Missions first. A1 takes about 3 weeks in this course. See the German A1 course and the Goethe A1 exam guide.

German levels A1 to B2: what you learn

The levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which the Goethe and telc exams also use. Each level builds on the one before it.

What the fee covers

  • The live classes, for the class hours shown in the tables.
  • The class recordings.
  • Doubt support on WhatsApp.
  • The weekly mock tests.
  • With the A1 to B2 combo only: a Germany roadmap session, plus admission or Ausbildung guidance from the Yastudy study-abroad team.

What the fee does not cover

  • The Goethe or telc exam fee. You pay it to the exam centre when you book your exam.
  • Your travel from Patna to the exam city.

What it costs to reach your goal from Patna

The course fee is one part of the cost. This table adds the course fee and one Goethe exam at the level you need.

GoalCourseCourse feeGoethe exam feeCourse and exam
Spouse visa, A1German A1₹14,000₹9,400 (A1)₹23,400

Nursing or Studienkolleg, B2A1 to B2 combo₹39,500₹21,200 (B2)₹60,700

The totals count one exam, at the level your goal asks for. The Goethe-Institut does not ask for a certificate at a lower level before you sit a higher exam, so you choose which exams to take. Add your travel to the exam city. The exam fees are the ones the Goethe-Institut India listed on 2 October 2026, including GST, and they can change.

You may find cheaper German classes in Patna

Some institutes advertise a lower fee for A1. Before you compare prices, compare what the price buys: the number of class hours, the size of the batch, whether classes are recorded, and what happens if you don't clear the exam. Divide the fee by the class hours, as in the table above. A lower fee for fewer hours in a larger batch is not a lower price.

The ₹199 live class

You pay ₹199 to confirm your seat and join a live class on Zoom, about 30 minutes plus questions and answers. You speak German and get corrected. If you enrol within 7 days of the class, the ₹199 comes off your fee. Otherwise it is not refunded.

German batch timings

Every level has its own batch, and a combo starts with the batch of its first level. All batches run Monday to Friday, 3 hours a day.

How to enrol from Patna

  1. Tell us your goal. Message us on WhatsApp, call, or meet a counsellor at the Patna office. We tell you the level you need and how long it takes.
  2. See a class. Ask for the 15-minute recorded class on WhatsApp, or join a live class on Zoom for ₹199.
  3. Choose one level or a combo. If your goal needs B1 or B2, a combo costs much less than paying level by level.
  4. Pay online in the fees section of the main German page.
  5. Join your batch online on the start date.

Online class or a classroom in Patna?

If you search for a German language institute in Patna, a German language centre or German coaching near you, you will find classroom institutes in the city as well as online courses. A classroom suits some students better. This is a fair way to compare, whichever institute you choose.

Ten questions to ask any German institute in Patna

  1. How many class hours does each level have?
  2. How many students are in a batch?
  3. Who teaches the class, and where did the trainer study?
  4. Will I speak in every class?
  5. Are the classes recorded, and what happens if I miss one?
  6. Which exam do you prepare me for: Goethe, telc or ÖSD?
  7. How often will I write a mock test?
  8. What happens if I don't clear the exam?
  9. Is the exam fee part of the course fee? Usually it is not, because you pay it to the exam centre.
  10. In which city will I take the exam? The Goethe-Institut lists its exam centres on its website, and Patna is not one of them.

Ask us the same ten questions. The answers are on this page.

When a classroom is the better choice

Choose a classroom if you do not have a quiet place or a steady connection at home, or if you know that you study better with a teacher in the room. An online class works only when you can give it three undisturbed hours a day.

Goethe exam from Patna: where and how

The course prepares you for the exam. The exam itself is taken in person at an exam centre, and there is no exam from home. On 2 October 2026 the Goethe-Institut India listed no exam centre in Patna or elsewhere in Bihar.

  • Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan: Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune.
  • Goethe Centres: Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Trivandrum.
  • Other places with A1 exam dates on the list: Noida, Trichy and Phagwara.

The exam cities nearest to Patna

Exam cityFrom PatnaGood to know
KolkataAbout 6½ to 10 hours by train, depending on the train, or a direct flight of a little over an hourThe nearest Goethe-Institut to Patna. See German classes in Kolkata.
New Delhi and Noida12 hours or more by train, or a direct flight of about two hoursTwo exam places in the same region. See German classes in Delhi and German classes in Noida.

Travel times are approximate. Check the train and flight timings for your own date. If you study or work in another exam city, such as Bangalore, Pune or Mumbai, take the exam there.

Planning the exam trip

  1. Book the exam first and the tickets after. The exam date decides the trip.
  2. Reach the city the evening before. The written exam starts on time for everyone, and a late start cannot be made up.
  3. Check both exam times in your invitation. The rules allow the speaking exam to be held on a different day, up to 14 days from the written exam. Book your return ticket after you know both.
  4. Carry your passport, in the original. The Goethe-Institut India accepts only a valid passport as ID for its language exams. If you do not have a passport yet, apply before you start the course. Patna has a Regional Passport Office.
  5. Book only with the Goethe-Institut or an exam centre named on its website. The institute states that places and dates not listed on its website are not valid exam sites. If anyone offers you a Goethe exam in Patna, check the Goethe-Institut India website first.

If your written and speaking exams fall on the same day, a short trip is enough: travel the day before, sit the exam, and return that night or the next morning. If they fall on different days, plan to stay or to travel twice, and count that in your budget before you choose the exam date.

Which exams to take

You do not have to sit an exam after every level. The Goethe-Institut does not ask for a lower certificate before a higher exam, so you need one exam: the A1 exam for a spouse visa, the B1 exam for Ausbildung, the B2 exam for nursing. At A1 and A2 you book the exam as a whole, not part by part. At B1 and B2 the exam has four modules, which you can take together or one at a time. From Patna it makes sense to take all four on one trip.

Goethe examListening, reading, writingSpeakingTo passFee in India, including GST

B240 + 65 + 75 minutes15 minutes, in pairs60% in each module₹21,200 for all four modules, or ₹5,300 for one module

These are the fees listed by the Goethe-Institut India on 2 October 2026. Check the current fees and dates on the Goethe-Institut India exam pages before you book. For the pattern, the marks, the booking steps and sample tasks, read the Goethe A1 exam guide.

telc and ÖSD exams

telc and ÖSD are separate exam providers with their own licensed centres. The German Missions in India accept their A1 certificates for a spouse visa, along with the Goethe certificate. If you plan to take one of them, find a licensed centre and a date on the provider's own website before you plan around it.

A note for spouse visa applicants. The German Missions in India state that the A1 exam cannot have taken place more than one year before you apply. Take the exam when your visa application is in sight, not long before it.

Three study plans from Patna

These plans count class time at 3 hours a day, Monday to Friday, with full attendance and daily practice. The exam date depends on what the exam centre has open.

PlanCourseClass timeExam to takeWhat comes next
AusbildungA1 to B1 comboAbout 13 weeks: A1 by week 3, A2 by week 6, B1 by week 13Goethe B1 in Kolkata or DelhiYou apply to companies in Germany with your B1 certificate
NursingA1 to B2 comboAbout 21 weeks: B1 by week 13, B2 by week 21Goethe B2The recognition of your nursing qualification, which needs B2
Spouse visaGerman A1About 3 weeksGoethe A1, not more than one year before the visa applicationThe visa application with your A1 certificate

If you are in college or working

The course asks for about 5 hours on every weekday: 3 hours of class and 2 hours of practice. Students in their final year, and people in full-time jobs, should look at the batch timing first and be honest about the two hours of practice. Recordings help when you miss a class now and then. They do not replace the class, because speaking and correction happen live.

After Class 12

A1 starts from zero, so you need no German to join. If your goal is Ausbildung, the A1 to B1 combo is the usual choice. If your goal is a bachelor's degree in Germany through a Studienkolleg, plan for B2. Read Bachelor's in Germany from India before you decide.

Mistakes to avoid when you plan German from Patna

  • Counting months, not hours. "A1 in two months" says nothing until you know how many class hours it is. Ask for the hours.
  • Choosing by fee alone. Compare the fee for each class hour, the batch size and what happens if you don't clear the exam.
  • Stopping at A1 or A2 when your goal needs more. Ausbildung normally needs B1 and nursing needs B2. Know your level before you pay for the first one.
  • Taking an exam after every level. Each exam costs a fee and a trip from Patna. For a spouse visa, Ausbildung or nursing you need only the exam at the level the goal asks for.
  • Leaving the passport for later. The Goethe-Institut India accepts only a passport at the exam, so apply for it early.
  • Booking tickets before the exam is confirmed. Wait for the exam invitation, which gives the reporting time for both the written and the speaking part.
  • Skipping the speaking practice. Every German exam has a speaking part, and it cannot be prepared by reading alone.
  • Trusting offers of a certificate without an exam. The Goethe-Institut warns against fraudulent offers that promise access to exams or certificates. A certificate comes only from passing the exam at a listed exam centre.

Message or call before you come, so that a counsellor is there for you. At the office you can talk through three things:

The German classes themselves are online, so you do not need to live near Boring Road to join. Yastudy also has offices in Noida and Bangalore. You can also reach us through the contact page.

Join from anywhere in Patna and Bihar

Because the class is online, where you live in Patna changes nothing. You can join from Boring Road, Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Patliputra Colony, Bailey Road, Ashiana Nagar, Danapur, Phulwari Sharif or Patna City, and you save the time you would spend crossing the city to a classroom.

The same is true outside Patna. You can join the same batch from Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Purnia, Begusarai, Arrah, Chapra or any other town in Bihar, and from Jharkhand as well. You take the exam in Kolkata or in Delhi, like a student from Patna. See what else Yastudy offers in Bihar.

Yastudy has a German page for other cities too: Noida, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Coimbatore and Trivandrum.

After the course: from Patna to Germany

German is one step. The next one depends on your route.

  • Ausbildung. Vocational training. In the dual form you are paid by a German employer and attend a vocational school. You apply to companies with your B1 certificate.
  • Nursing. Nurses need their qualification recognised in Germany, and recognition asks for B2.
  • Bachelor's degree. Many students with an Indian Class 12 certificate go through a Studienkolleg first.
  • Master's degree. Many programs are taught in English, and German helps with part-time work and daily life.
  • Work. The Opportunity Card lets you look for a job in Germany. On its points route, German A1 or English B2 is the minimum, and higher German levels add points.

Students on the A1 to B2 combo get a Germany roadmap session, plus admission or Ausbildung guidance from the Yastudy study-abroad team.

The classes are live online, with a trainer teaching the batch in real time. The Yastudy office in Patna is for counselling: your level, your batch and your plan for Germany.

Is there a Goethe-Institut or Max Mueller Bhavan in Patna?

No. The Goethe-Institut has institutes in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune, and Goethe Centres in Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Trivandrum. Kolkata is the nearest to Patna.

Where is the nearest Goethe exam centre to Patna?

Kolkata, which is about 6½ to 10 hours from Patna by train, depending on the train, or a little over an hour by direct flight. New Delhi and Noida are the next option. Book your exam on the Goethe-Institut India website.

Can I take the Goethe exam online from Patna?

No. You book online, but the Goethe-Institut does not offer its exams from home. You take the exam in person at an exam centre, with your original passport.

How long does it take to learn German from zero?

In this course A1 takes about 3 weeks, A2 is done by week 6, B1 by week 13 and B2 by week 21. That is with 3 hours of live class a day, Monday to Friday, and about 2 hours of your own practice.

Can I learn German in 3 months?

You can reach B1 in about 13 weeks in this course, starting from zero, if you attend every class and practise about 2 hours a day. B2 takes about 21 weeks. At a few hours a week, three months cover far less.

Which German level do I need for Ausbildung?

B1, normally. In this course that is about 13 weeks from zero, with the A1 to B1 combo at ₹29,500. Some training companies ask for more, so check what your employer wants.

Which German level do nurses need?

B2 for the recognition of a nursing qualification in Germany. In this course B2 is reached by about week 21 from zero, with the A1 to B2 combo at ₹39,500.

Can I join the German course after Class 12?

Yes. A1 starts from zero and needs no German. What it needs is time: 3 hours of class and about 2 hours of practice on every weekday.

I am in college or working in Patna. Can I manage this course?

Only if you can give it about 5 hours on every weekday. Check the batch timing first and tell us about your day on WhatsApp. If you can study only at the weekend, this intensive course is not the right one for you.

What if my internet or power fails during a class?
