FT Global MBA 2026 (February 2026)[1][2][3]; QS Global MBA 2027 (September 2026)[4][5][6]; FT European Business Schools 2025 (December 2025), in which eight German schools are ranked[7][8][9][10][11]. “=” means a shared rank; “–” means not listed. ESMT describes itself as second in Germany in the FT MBA, but by the FT ranks WHU (69) is ahead of ESMT (=79).
Master in Management rankings (for recent graduates)
| Programme | FT Masters in Management 2026 | QS Business Masters 2027: Management |
|---|---|---|
| WHU MSc in Management | 19th, 1st in Germany | 24th, 1st in Germany |

| Frankfurt School MiM | 46th, 6th in Germany | 45th, 4th in Germany |
| TUM MSc Management & Technology | not published by the school | 28th |
As published by each school (FT MiM, 7 September 2026; QS Business Masters 2027, September 2026).[9][12][13][5][14][15] Other German programmes also appear in these tables; we list only ranks the schools publish themselves.
How to read the rankings
- MBA and MiM rankings are separate. WHU is first in Germany for its Master in Management but second for its MBA in the FT tables.
- Ranks move every year. Mannheim rose from =71 to =65 in the FT MBA, and from 46th to 38th in the QS MBA.[1][4][2]
- A rank isn’t a fit. Your experience, budget, test plans and preferred city matter more than ten places in a table. Compare tuition at each school and the GMAT policy by school too.
Triple accreditation: what AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA mean
Three international bodies accredit business schools: AACSB (based in the US), EQUIS (run by EFMD in Europe) and AMBA (based in the UK, focused on MBA and master’s programmes). A school holding all three is called “triple-accredited” or “Triple Crown”. Separately, German degree programmes are accredited within the German Accreditation Council’s system, either programme by programme or through system accreditation of the whole university.[16]
| School | AACSB | EQUIS | AMBA | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mannheim Business School | Since 1999 | Since 2004 | Since 2008 | Triple Crown since 2008[2] |
| ESMT Berlin | Yes | Yes | Yes | Triple Crown[7] |
| Frankfurt School | Yes | Yes | Yes | Triple Crown[17] |
| TUM School of Management | Yes | Yes | Yes (Executive MBA programmes) | Triple Crown[15] |
| WHU – Otto Beisheim | Since 2010 | Since 1998 | – | FIBAA system accreditation[9] |
| HHL Leipzig | Since 2004 | – | – | All programmes accredited by the Accreditation Council[11] |
| University of Cologne (faculty) | – | Since 2012 | – | Re-accredited in 2023[18] |
| Goethe University Frankfurt (faculty) | Yes | – | – | [19] |
| EBS Universität | Since 2023 | – | – | [20] |
| Pforzheim University | Yes | – | – | [21] |
“–” means not shown on the pages we checked. Accreditation is a quality signal, not a guarantee of fit, and a missing label doesn’t mean a programme is weak: WHU tops the FT MiM table in Germany without AMBA.

A public university whose management faculty has held EQUIS accreditation since 2012.[18] Its MSc Business Administration charges no tuition (only the semester contribution), lasts 4 semesters and treats the GMAT as optional; it needs 60 ECTS in business administration, 18 in economics and 15 in maths or statistics, and offers a double degree with IIM Ahmedabad.[45]

How to check a private business school before you pay
Private business schools in Germany vary widely. These five checks take an evening and protect a decision worth tens of lakhs.
- State recognition. The school should be a state-recognised university (staatlich anerkannt). Hochschulkompass, run by the German Rectors’ Conference, lists the recognised institutions.[48]
- Who awards the degree. Some programmes taught in Germany award a foreign university’s degree. Ask who signs the certificate, and how the degree is recognised in Germany and in India.
- Full-time and on campus. The German student visa is for a full-time, in-person degree programme.[49] Online or part-time formats don’t qualify.
- Accreditation. Check the programme or system accreditation (Accreditation Council, often via FIBAA, ACQUIN or ZEvA) and any international labels (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) on the school’s own page.
- The real total and the visa proof. Add registration, enrolment and semester fees to tuition. For any programme that charges tuition, the visa also needs proof that your first year’s tuition is covered: a payment confirmation, an education loan or an extra deposit.[50]
How to choose the right German business school for you
- Experience first. Three years opens every ranked MBA; two years opens WHU and HHL; less points to a Master in Management.
- Then budget. Ranked MBAs cost €42,000–51,000 in tuition; public options cost a fraction. See the whole-programme totals in our cost table.
- Timing. Most programmes start in September or October; ESMT’s MBA starts in January.
- Test plans. Mannheim requires the GMAT or GRE; ESMT and HHL accept their own tests; WHU and Frankfurt School offer other routes.
- City and network. Düsseldorf, Berlin, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Leipzig and Munich have very different job markets and living costs.
- Published outcomes. Ask each school for its employment report. Frankfurt School and HHL publish theirs on the programme page (81% of MBAs employed within three months and 91% within six months respectively; note the different time frames).[17][39]

How many German business schools are in the FT MBA ranking?
Four in 2026: Mannheim (=65), WHU (69), ESMT Berlin (=79) and Frankfurt School (=92).
Which German business schools are triple-accredited?
Among the schools we checked: Mannheim Business School, ESMT Berlin, Frankfurt School and the TUM School of Management hold AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. WHU holds AACSB and EQUIS, and HHL holds AACSB.
Is WHU or Mannheim better for an MBA?
Both charge €49,500 for a roughly one-year full-time MBA. Mannheim ranks higher in the FT and QS MBA tables and requires 3 years of work and a GMAT or GRE; WHU, in Düsseldorf, takes applicants with 2 years and doesn’t strictly require a test. WHU leads Germany in the FT Masters in Management.
Which German business school has a January MBA intake?
ESMT Berlin’s full-time MBA starts in January. The January 2027 class closes on 31 October 2026 (final round 15 December, if places remain), so most Indian applicants should aim for January 2028, at €51,000.
Does TUM have an MBA?

Are private business schools in Germany recognised?
Many private universities in Germany are state-recognised, ESMT Berlin among them. Check each school’s state recognition, who awards the degree, its accreditation and that the programme is full-time and on campus before you pay.
What GMAT score do German business schools need?
Few publish a minimum. Mannheim names 600 on the classic GMAT or 565 on the GMAT Focus Edition, Pforzheim expects 550+ (Focus 515+), and WHU’s MSc asks for 555. ESMT and HHL publish no minimum.
Do Indian applicants need anything extra for German business schools?
Yes: the APS certificate for an Indian degree and, from the summer 2027 intake, the dMAT if your degree is in engineering, commerce, economics, business or management. Mannheim Business School asks Indian MBA applicants for the dMAT.
