Where can you learn German in Bangalore?

Bangalore gives you four different ways to learn German. It helps to know all of them before you look at our course, because each one suits a different student.

1. Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar

The Goethe-Institut, known in India as Max Mueller Bhavan, is Germany's cultural institute. It teaches German from A1 to C2 and also conducts the Goethe exams. The Bangalore institute is at 716, CMH Road, Indiranagar 1st Stage, and the institute names Indiranagar as its Namma Metro station.

On 2 October 2026 its website listed these group courses. A teaching unit is 45 minutes.

CoursePaceLevelsFee listed
Super Intensive weekday, face-to-face6 to 7 weeks for each course, 25 teaching units a weekA1, A2, B1INR 28,500
Intensive weekday, face-to-face11 to 12 weeks for each course, 15 teaching units a weekA1 to C2INR 28,500
Intensive weekend, face-to-face14 to 15 weeks for each course, 11 to 12 teaching units a weekA1 to C2INR 30,500
Online Live courses, all India7, 11, 16 or 20 weeks for each course, 160 teaching unitsA1 to B2.2INR 28,500

B2, C1 and C2 are each taught in two parts, and each part is a separate course. Face-to-face groups have at most 24 participants and online groups at most 18. Check the current courses and fees on the Goethe-Institut Bangalore course page and its online course page before you decide. The institute suits you if you want a classroom, more class hours for each level, or a weekend course.

2. University courses

If you are searching for a German language course at Bangalore University, look at Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University as well, which was called Bengaluru City University until 2025. Its website lists diploma and certificate courses in global languages. Ask the university which languages are offered this year and when admissions open. If your goal is a visa, an Ausbildung or recognition as a nurse, check first which certificate the German side asks for. In most cases it is a Goethe, telc or ÖSD certificate at a stated level.

3. Classroom institutes across the city

Private institutes teach German in classrooms in several parts of Bangalore. Class hours, batch size and price differ from one institute to the next. The checks further down this page apply to them as they do to us.

4. Live online courses

This is where Yastudy fits. Classes are live, with a trainer and a small batch, and you join from home, so you save the commute across the city. You book the Goethe exam with the Goethe-Institut like everyone else.

Yastudy and the Goethe-Institut, side by side

If you are choosing between these two, compare them point by point. The Goethe-Institut figures are from its Bangalore course page and its India online course page on 2 October 2026. In both columns the weeks are counted with one course straight after the other. In practice each course starts on fixed dates, so the calendar decides the real timeline.

ExamThe Goethe exam, run by the same institutePreparation for the Goethe and telc exams. You book the exam with the Goethe-Institut.

Read the table honestly. The Goethe-Institut gives you more hours in class for each level, a classroom, and weekend courses. Its Super Intensive course is as intensive as ours, with more class hours and a larger group. Our course is shorter and costs less in total because each level has fewer class hours and you are expected to do about two hours of your own practice every weekday. A single A1 or A2 level with us costs more for each class hour than a Goethe-Institut course, and the combos cost less. If you need B1 or B2 within months and can give German five hours a day, our course is built for that. If you want more class hours, a classroom or a weekend course, the Goethe-Institut will serve you better.

How Yastudy German classes work for students in Bangalore

You join a live class from home, and a trainer teaches the batch in real time. You are asked questions, you speak German, and you are corrected. It is a class, not a set of recorded videos.

  • Three hours of live class a day, Monday to Friday, and about two more hours of homework and practice.
  • 10 to 12 students in a batch at most, with speaking practice in every class.
  • Every class is recorded, so a missed class or a dropped connection does not leave a gap.
  • Doubts on WhatsApp between classes.
  • A mock test every week, so that you know the exam pattern before exam day.
  • Yastudy's own course material. At A1 this is a Kursbuch (course book) with 12 lessons and an Arbeitsbuch (workbook), with an exam task in every lesson.

The batch is the same for every city, so a student in Whitefield, a student in Jayanagar and a student in Patna sit in the same class. The full course is on the main German language course page.

Your trainer

Raj studied at TU Munich in a German-taught program. He teaches the German you will actually need in Germany, and he knows what the route from India to Germany looks like.

What a weekday looks like

Part of the dayTimeWhat you do
Live class3 hoursNew material with your trainer, then speaking practice in a small group
Your own practiceAbout 2 hoursHomework, new words, and the recording if you need to revise
Every weekOne mock testYou see where you stand before the exam

That is about 5 hours of German on every weekday. The pace only works if you attend every class and practise daily. If you can study only at the weekend, this course will not suit you.

What you need at home

  • A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera and a microphone. A laptop is more comfortable for three hours.
  • Earphones or a headset for the listening exercises.
  • A steady internet connection, with mobile data as a backup.
  • A quiet place for three hours, and a notebook. The paper-based exam is written by hand, so practise writing by hand as well.

See a class before you decide. We send a 15-minute recorded class on WhatsApp, with no payment needed. Or join a live class on Zoom for ₹199.

Which German level do you need?

Your goal decides the level. These are the usual requirements, and the week by which this course reaches each one.

Some employers, schools and German states ask for more, and rules change, so check the official page for your case. The level table on the main German page names the official sources for the visa and recognition rows.

Working in tech in Bangalore

Two routes matter most for engineers and other graduates. On the points route of the Opportunity Card you need German A1 or English B2 at minimum, and German A2, B1 and B2 then add 1, 2 and 3 points. Graduates whose degree is fully recognised in Germany do not need the points. If you move on an EU Blue Card, German still pays off later: Make it in Germany states that Blue Card holders can get a settlement permit after 21 months with B1 German, instead of 27 months with A1. Be honest about time, though. This course needs about 5 hours on every weekday, which is very hard to keep up beside a full-time job. Read the Opportunity Card guide first.

Nurses

The recognition of a nursing qualification in Germany asks for German at B2. Plan the full A1 to B2 route, about 21 weeks of class, and take the B2 exam at the end. The German B2 course page explains what B2 involves.

College students

If you plan a degree in Germany, the level depends on the language of the program. Many master's programs are taught in English. For a bachelor's degree, many students with an Indian Class 12 or PUC certificate go through a Studienkolleg first, and its entrance test needs B1 to B2. Read Bachelor's in Germany from India.

If you already know some German

You do not have to start from A1. If you have finished A1 elsewhere, join the A2 batch: the A2 to B1 combo is ₹23,500 and A2 to B2 is ₹33,500. Not sure of your level? Message us on WhatsApp and we will check it with you.

The Goethe-Institut does not ask for a certificate at a lower level before you sit a higher exam, so you choose which exams to take. The exam fees are the ones the Goethe-Institut India listed on 2 October 2026, including GST, and they can change.

Comparing fees in Bangalore

Institutes may quote German fees for a level, for a month or for a package. To compare them, ask each one for the number of class hours and divide the fee by it, as in the first table above. Then look at the batch size, whether classes are recorded, and what happens if you don't clear the exam.

The ₹199 live class

You pay ₹199 to confirm your seat and join a live class on Zoom, about 30 minutes plus questions and answers. You speak German and get corrected. If you enrol within 7 days of the class, the ₹199 comes off your fee. Otherwise it is not refunded.

German batch timings

Every level has its own batch, and a combo starts with the batch of its first level. All batches run Monday to Friday, 3 hours a day.

Goethe exam in Bangalore: where and how

Students in Bangalore have one clear advantage: the exam centre is in their own city. On 2 October 2026 the Goethe-Institut India listed A1 exam dates for Bangalore.

Booking the exam

  1. Book on the Goethe-Institut India website. You choose the level, the place and a date, sign in to your Mein Goethe.de account and pay online.
  2. Enter your name exactly as in your passport. The certificate is issued from these details.
  3. Read the message the institute sends you after you register. It tells you what is required on the day of the exam. At A1 and A2 the rules allow the speaking exam to be held on a different day, up to 14 days from the written exam.
  4. Carry your passport, in the original. The Goethe-Institut India accepts only a valid passport as ID for its language exams.
  5. Book only on the Goethe-Institut's own website. The institute warns against fraudulent offers that promise access to exams or certificates.

On exam day

Reach the venue in good time. Mobile phones, smartwatches, dictionaries and notes are not allowed in the exam room. You get your result in your Mein Goethe.de account, and the certificate is downloaded from the same account.

These are the fees listed by the Goethe-Institut India on 2 October 2026. Check the current fees and dates on the Goethe-Institut India exam pages before you book.

Which exams to take

You do not have to sit an exam after every level. The Goethe-Institut does not ask for a lower certificate before a higher exam. Take the exam your goal asks for: A1 for a spouse visa, B1 for Ausbildung, B2 for nursing. At B1 and B2 the exam has four modules, which you can take together or one at a time.

telc and ÖSD exams

telc and ÖSD are separate exam providers with their own licensed centres. The German Missions in India accept their A1 certificates for a spouse visa, along with the Goethe certificate. If you plan to take one of them, find a licensed centre and a date on the provider's own website first.

For the A1 paper in detail, with sample tasks, marks and preparation, read the Goethe A1 exam guide.

After the certificate: visa and APS from Bangalore

The German certificate is one document in a longer file. For residents of Karnataka, the visa side is handled in Bangalore.

The German Consulate General in Bengaluru

The German Consulate General is on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Cash Pharmacy Building, at the corner of St. Mark's Road and Residency Road, Bengaluru 560025. The German Missions state that it is responsible for visa applications from residents of Karnataka and Kerala. They also state that most national visas can be applied for online through the Consular Service Portal, and that the others need an appointment through the service provider VFS. Start from the visa pages of the German Missions in India.

A note for spouse visa applicants. Not every spouse needs a German certificate. The German Missions in India say it is mandatory for almost everyone joining a German citizen, and for most spouses of people in Germany who do not hold a visa or residence permit for highly skilled work. They also state that the A1 exam cannot have taken place more than one year ago, so take the exam when your application is in sight.

The APS certificate, for students

If you are going to Germany for a degree, you will meet the APS certificate. APS India verifies academic documents issued by Indian institutions, and its certificate is part of the documents generally required in the German student visa procedure. APS India is part of the Science Section of the German Embassy New Delhi. You register online, pay the fee and send your documents by post or courier. APS India does not take documents in person. For selected master's subjects APS India also asks for a test called dMAT, which our dMAT exam guide explains.

If five hours a day is too much

Some students cannot give German five hours on every weekday, and it is better to say so now. In that case this intensive course is the wrong choice. Look at the weekend courses at the Goethe-Institut, and come back to us for B1 or B2 when you can study full-time.

Join from anywhere in Bangalore and Karnataka

Because the class is online, your area does not matter. You can join from Indiranagar, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Whitefield, Marathahalli, Electronic City, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, BTM Layout, Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Hebbal or Yelahanka, and you save the commute to a classroom.

The same batch is open to the rest of Karnataka: Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi, Belagavi, Davanagere, Shivamogga and Kalaburagi. Students there travel only for the exam. Bangalore is the only Goethe exam place in Karnataka, and students in the north of the state may find Hyderabad or Pune nearer. See what else Yastudy offers in Karnataka.

Checks before you pay for a German course in Bangalore

These apply to every institute, including this one.

  1. Class hours. Ask how many class hours each level has. Months alone do not tell you how much teaching you get.
  2. Batch size. Ask for the largest batch, not the average.
  3. The trainer. Ask who teaches the class and where the trainer studied.
  4. Speaking. Ask whether you speak in every class. Every Goethe exam from A1 to B2 has a speaking part.
  5. Missed classes. Ask whether classes are recorded and what happens when you miss one.
  6. The exam. Ask which exam the course prepares you for, and how often you write a mock test.
  7. If you don't pass. Ask what happens next, and ask for it in writing.
  8. The exam fee. It is usually not part of the course fee, because you pay it to the exam centre.
  9. "Placement" and "guarantee". A German certificate does not come with a job. Ask exactly what is promised. Yastudy does not promise a job or a placement. What we promise is the repeat of a level under the conditions on this page and, with the A1 to B2 combo, a roadmap session and admission or Ausbildung guidance.
  10. A class before you pay. Ask to watch one. If you cannot see a class, you cannot judge it.

Our answers to all ten are on this page.

Your first German sentences, from Bangalore

The first A1 lesson is about greetings and introducing yourself. This is the kind of introduction you build in the first days of the course, and it is also the first task of the A1 speaking exam.
