dMAT Exam Dates 2026–27: Next Test Date, Registration Deadline and Result Date

The next dMAT is planned for the first quarter of 2027. g.a.s.t. has not announced the exact date yet. The first dMAT in India took place on 26 September 2026, and its results are published on 12 October 2026.

What the first exam tells us about timing

The next cycle may be organised differently, but the first one gives a rough idea of the gaps to plan for.

So from the last day of registration to having a certificate in hand took about four weeks. Add the time APS India needs to complete your file after that.

Which test date do you need for your intake?

Your intake	What applies
Winter semester 2026/27	No dMAT needed. The requirement starts with the summer semester 2027.
Summer semester 2027	The September 2026 exam was the one planned for this intake. A German Embassy spokesperson told The PIE News that the schedule was designed around the 15 January application deadline for the summer semester.
Winter semester 2027/28	You can use a September 2026 result, which g.a.s.t. confirms is still valid, or sit the exam planned for early 2027.
Later intakes	The certificate has no expiry date set by g.a.s.t. A university that receives it directly may set its own limit.

Deadlines differ between universities and programmes. Many German universities use 15 January for the summer semester and 15 July for the winter semester, but some programmes close months earlier. Always check the programme's own page.

If you missed the September 2026 exam

First check whether you need the dMAT at all. You are exempt if you completed your APS online registration or shipped your complete APS documents before 29 June 2026, or if your degree is outside the affected fields. See who needs the dMAT.

If you do need it, this is how the timing works out:

APS India can issue your APS certificate only after it has received and checked your dMAT certificate.
The earliest certificate you can now get will come from the exam planned for the first quarter of 2027.
That is after 15 January, the deadline many summer-semester programmes use.

For most applicants in this position, the realistic target is therefore the winter semester 2027/28, unless your programme has a later summer deadline. You can still send your other APS documents now so that APS India can check them in advance.

How to be ready when registration opens

Create your g.a.s.t. account early and keep a passport-style photo ready to upload.
Decide on your test city. Seats are allotted first come, first served. The cities in India are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kolkata, Mananthavady, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune.
Keep €150 ready for online payment.
Need a special arrangement? Candidates with a recognised disability must register at least ten weeks before the test date, so act as soon as the date is published.
Start preparing before the date is out. The task types are fixed, so nothing you practise now will be wasted. Begin with the exam pattern.

Cancelling or changing a registration

Cancel before the registration deadline	Possible in the participant portal. The fee is refunded, and an administrative charge of up to 15% may be deducted.
Cancel after the deadline, miss the test, or leave during the test	No refund, and no certificate is issued.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next dMAT exam?

g.a.s.t. says the next test date after 26 September 2026 is planned for the first quarter of 2027. The exact date will be published on the official dMAT website once it is confirmed. As of 10 October 2026 it has not been announced.

How many times a year is the dMAT held in India?

g.a.s.t. has not published a yearly schedule. So far there has been one test date in India, on 26 September 2026, and one more is planned for the first quarter of 2027.

When does registration for the next dMAT start?

No registration dates have been published for the next test. For the first exam, registration was open from 29 June to 15 September 2026, and it closed 11 days before the test.

I missed the September 2026 dMAT. Can I still apply for the summer semester 2027?

Only if your APS procedure is exempt from the dMAT, or if your programme's deadline is late enough for a result from the early-2027 test. APS India issues the APS certificate only after it has your dMAT certificate, and many summer-semester programmes close in mid-January.

Is my September 2026 dMAT result valid for the winter semester 2027?

Yes. g.a.s.t. confirms that a result obtained in September 2026 is still valid for the winter semester 2027. The certificate itself has no expiry date.

Can I change my test date or test centre after registering?

Only in consultation with g.a.s.t. (kontakt@gast.de), and you should ask before the registration deadline. After the deadline, changes through the regular process are no longer possible.

Can I take the dMAT in Germany or Nepal on a different date?

The dMAT is offered in Berlin and Kathmandu as well as in India. Dates for each location are shown in the g.a.s.t. registration portal.
