dMAT Mock Test: A Timed Sample Test with Answers and Explanations

By the Yastudy Test Prep Team · Last updated

This sample test gives you 40 dMAT-style questions in four timed sections: Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations, Latin Squares and the General Academic Module. The time per question is the same as in the real exam. At the end you see your correct answers by section and an explanation for every question.

Take the sample test

Sit somewhere quiet and put away pen, paper, calculator and phone. The test runs in your browser and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

How to read your result

The result shows correct answers and the time you used in each section. Use it to decide what to practise.

What you seeWhat it suggestsWhat to do
A low count in one Core section, time used upYou do not yet know that task type well enoughLearn its rules: Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations, Latin Squares
A good count, but several questions not answeredAccuracy is fine, speed is the issueTimed sets of 20 tasks in 25 minutes
Many wrong answers with time to spareYou are going too fastSlow down and check each answer once
A low count in the General Academic ModuleReading and applying a text under time pressureGeneral Academic Module practice with texts outside your subject

Your result here is a count of correct answers. It cannot be turned into an official dMAT score, because the real score and percentile are calculated against all test takers.

What a sample test cannot show

Take a full-length mock before the exam

For the last two weeks before your test date, practise at full length: 60 Core tasks, a 30-minute break and a 90-minute General Academic Module, in one sitting and without notes.

How to take a mock test properly

  1. One sitting. Do not pause between sections, other than the break the exam itself gives you.
  2. Nothing on the desk. No paper, no pen, no calculator, no phone.
  3. Answer everything. If you do not know, guess, as the official instructions advise.
  4. Review the same day. Go through every wrong answer and every guess while you still remember how you thought about it.
  5. Write down what went wrong after the test, in one line per question: did not know the rule, misread, ran out of time, or arithmetic slip. The pattern tells you what to practise.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a full-length dMAT mock test?

No. It is a sample test of 40 questions in about 52 minutes, at the same pace as the real exam. The real dMAT has 60 Core Module tasks and about 60 General Academic Module questions, and lasts three and a half hours including the break. Yastudy's full-length mock tests are part of the preparation package.

Can this test tell me my dMAT score or percentile?

No. The official dMAT score and percentile compare you with all real test takers, which no practice test can reproduce. The sample test shows how many questions you got right in each section and where you lost time.

Are the questions from the real dMAT?

No. They are original Yastudy questions written in the format g.a.s.t. has published. Every answer in the three Core sections has been checked by computer.

Are there official dMAT mock tests?

g.a.s.t. provides a preparation booklet with exercises and solutions, and a demo version of the test software in the participant portal under "Exam Preparation". Use both before any other practice material.

How many mock tests should I take before the dMAT?

There is no official recommendation. A sensible plan is to learn the task types first, take one timed test to find your weakest section, practise that section, and then take full-length tests in the last two weeks to build stamina for a three-and-a-half-hour exam.

Can I go back to earlier questions?

In this sample test you can move between the questions of the section you are in, but not back to a section that has ended. g.a.s.t. shows how navigation works in the real test in its videos and in the demo version.
